According to reports, more than one-third of South Asian girls miss school during their periods. It also suggests that lack of toilets and cultural taboos are the two major reasons behind it. The report was published days before Menstrusal Hygiene Day on May 28 also said two- third of the girls in Sri Lanka were unaware of puberty before they actually reach that age.

Most schools in the region with population over 1.7 billion don’t have access to toilets for girls. Not only this, but the non-availability of proper sanitary pads leads to majority girls missing their education for four days a month.
