The Blues are in the market for a striker but they won’t be making an offer for the Brazilian, who has a choice of options this winter
Chelsea are in the hunt for new attacking players in the January transfer window but have no interest in Gabriel Barbosa, who is attracting the interest of West Ham and Flamengo.
The 23-year-old scored 43 goals in all competitions for Flamengo during a prolific loan spell from Inter, but has not yet agreed a deal to make that move permanent.
And with Chelsea having no intention of making a move, West Ham have emerged as the only other party interested in making a winter bid for the Brazil international.
Inter are keen to sell the player despite a return to form since his loan move back to his home country, helping his new side win the Copa Libertadores with two goals in the final over River Plate. Soon after, Flamengo narrowly lost to Liverpool in the Club World Cup final.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are cautious about making a move for players they are not entirely convinced by, with Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi already boasting significant quality in the squad’s attacking department.
Giroud remains of interest to Inter, who are currently leading the race to sign the France international, but the Nerazzurri need to offload players before making a swoop.
Lyon and Bordeaux are also in the market for the World Cup winner but haven’t yet pushed to do a deal after making initial contact.
There is a chance that Batshuayi could leave west London but not without the Blues having lined up a replacement, while the Belgian himself is seemingly happy to continue fighting for his place at the club.
Indeed, replacing Batshuayi will be made all the more difficult as Chelsea’s preferred targets are unlikely to be allowed to swap teams midway through the season.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa are thought to be monitoring both Batshuayi and Giroud after Wesley suffered a long-term knee injury that requires surgery to repair.
Those at Stamford Bridge are keeping close tabs on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who looks set to stay with the Bundesliga table-toppers until at least the summer as he believes his Euro 2020 chances are best served by staying put in the short term.
Staying in Germany, Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is of great interest to Frank Lampard’s team but the young Englishman will similarly not be available until the summer at the earliest.
In France, Lyon have warned suitors off signing Moussa Dembele, who has been heavily linked to Chelsea throughout the winter period.
The Blues are also interested in Wilfried Zaha, who has signed up with super-agent Federico Pastorello in order to engineer an escape route out of Crystal Palace. The Eagles, however, are demanding £80 million ($105m) for their prized asset.
Beyond the aforementioned targets, Chelsea have also been scouting Dimano Zagreb’s Dani Olmo and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze.
