Jim Ross was knocked backwards off of his chair on Saturday night while commentating on the Jay White vs. Juice Robinson IWGP U.S. Title match. He was helped up and continued to do commentary for the rest of the four-and-a-half-hour event and didn’t draw attention to himself. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t hurt. He says the spot where White whipped Robinson into the guard rail in front of the announce table was not planned.
“For the record, the ‘bump’ I took at ringside was not [a] storyline-driven matter nor was it discussed. I think I broke a rib. Couldn’t put my roller bag in the overhead bin today after a sleepless night Saturday.”

The Wrestling Observer adds: “Ross was diagnosed with issues involving both his lungs and ribs and was told to be cautious at the present time for fear of contracting pneumonia. The rib injury has led to very significant pain when he moves, coughs, or yawns.”
Josh Barnett, Ross’s announce partner during the NJPW event, stood up and swore on air repeatedly and pursued White around the ringside area afterward, legitimately upset with what happened. Barnett is a longtime MMA heavyweight top contender.
Jonathan Coachman made a veiled reference to Ross on Raw on Monday night, saying that he was hearing rib injuries were going around after a wrestler on the show smashed into the ringside barrier. Ross commented on Twitter saying he doesn’t care. “Hmm.. I must have missed this one. Who cares? Really, who cares?” he wrote on Twitter.
