Official World of Sport Announcement, Ryder Update, Bruno Funeral

ITV in the United Kingdom has been planning a revival of the old World of Sport series for quite some time now. It looked as though the show would finally be returning with tapings scheduled to take place last year, but those tapings were later cancelled and it even looked like the project was dead for a while. However, it was recently reported that tapings for the revived series would begin soon, and ITV has officially announced that World of Sport will indeed be coming back and featuring some of the best independent wrestling talent that the UK has to offer. Production on the new series will begin with tapings for a first season consisting of exactly ten episodes later on this year.
WWE Superstar Zack Ryder was recently moved over to the Raw brand as part of the Superstar Shakeup from earlier this month. With several stars traded from Raw to Smackdown and vice versa, Ryder was hoping that the change of scenery would allow him to begin a new chapter in his wrestling career. Unfortunately, Ryder announced that he had suffered a knee injury during a match taped for an upcoming episode of Main Event against Mike Kanellis, and he also said that he will be going to Orlando to have an MRI done on his injury. Few details on the severity of the injury have been provided, but WWE has now confirmed that Ryder is indeed injured and will have to miss The Greatest Royal Rumble event as a result of the injury.
One of the most iconic professional wrestlers of all time, Bruno Sammartino, tragically passed away at the age of 82 one week ago. Several wrestlers and colleagues have paid their respects to Bruno over the past week. WWE also honored Sammartino by performing a 10-bell salute doing this week’s edition of Raw before airing a special documentary on the WWE Hall of Famer on the WWE Network after Raw went off the air. Sammartino’s funeral took place earlier this week and he was buried in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Monday morning. Footage from Sammartino’s funeral, which includes some touching words from his friends and peers, has been uploaded online by KDKA in Pittsburgh.
